Attention State Tournament Participants -
  • Please find here the State Tournament Championships information, to be held on September 1 to September 4 at the Jackson Horseshoe Club.
  • Senior (age 60 or better) pitchers remember we are hosting a Seniors only tournament on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Jackson Horseshoe Club. The entry fee will be $15.00 per pitcher. Sign in deadline is 4:30PM and the pitching starts at 5:00PM.
  • Each participant should read the included information and pay special attention to the Important Information for State Championship Pitchers. (2 pages)
  • All pitchers must be at the Tournament site one (1) hour before their scheduled starting time on Saturday and Monday (if pitching in the Championship Round). Rain or Shine! Pictures will be taken of your group, so please don't be late.
  • Dinner hosted by the Jackson Horseshoe Club will take place on Saturday at 6:00PM, followed immediately by the Annual Membership Meeting. Dinner and the meeting will take place in the Jackson Indoor Pitching facility.
  • The Most Improved Pitcher awards and Hall of Fame induction will take place on Sunday, September 3 at approximately 1:30PM (*time is estimated (following morning session of pitching).
  • The Friends of Horseshoe Raffle will be held immediately following the awards.
  • The Awards Ceremony for class play and Cadet Championship will be held following the completion of the afternoon groups on Sunday.
Championships/Move-Ups for Monday's Championship Rounds -
  • The top eight (8) Men in ringer percentage will advance to the Men's Championship group, which will be played Monday at 9:30AM.
  • The top eight (8) 30' Men in ringer percentage will advance to the 30' Men's Championship group, which will be played Monday at 9:30AM.
  • The top four (4) Women in ringer percentage will advance to the Women's Championship group, which will be played Monday at 9:30AM.
  • Awards Ceremony for Championship Groups immediately following the completion of all three Championship groups on Monday.
  • The classes listed here will play a 40-point or 50-shoe game, whichever occurs first:
    30' & 40' Class G
    Men's E

Hotel Information for the State Tournament

Jackson is a popular location for the Labor Day Weekend. There are numerous weddings and activities taking place in town. So, due to these factors, below are the accommodations we were able to secure.

Comfort Inn – 2435 Shirley Drive, Jackson, MI 49202 – 517-768-0088 - A block of rooms has been held – when you call just tell them “Michigan State Horseshoe Tournament”. You must call by August 8 to get the discount and to reserve a held room.

During the weekend tournaments, food will be available for purchase. The Jackson Horseshoe Club is arranging for food to be available.

What is the MHPA?

The purpose of the Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Association is to promote the great game of horseshoes in this way: "The sport of horseshoe pitching affords a healthy, scientific, pleasant and competitive sport suitable to all persons with a desire to unify horseshoe adherents, standardize horseshoepitching rules, authorize and conduct tournaments of local, state and national scope, promote the establishment of league and clubs.

Joining the MHPA is Easy

To join the MHPA, just fill out the application and send it in. You will meet some great people who love the game of horseshoes. A small fee is charged ($35) annually, which includes membership in the NHPA and insurance for all sanctioned events.

Why Join the MHPA?

Horseshoe pitching is at its finest when played with some competition, especially those that love the game. One can practice endless hours on a home court, but joining the MHPA gives you a chance to improve your game and have camaraderie with other players in the Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Association. The exercise and competition is great.

A current tournament schedule will be sent to you along with a packet of information containing the MHPA constitution and bylaws, history of the game, how to call score, Michigan State Champions dating back to 1923. You will also receive the official rules of horseshoe pitching, updated maps to each tournament site, a subscription to our newsletter, "The Ringer Report", and much, much more!
